The 30 Second Grab - What is Christianity

THE 30 SECOND GRAB – “WHAT IS CHRISTIANITY?”

In this 21st century everything has to be quick and brief if it is to catch attention. We might not like this but there is no point in saying everyone else is wrong!

In not more than 150 words (but preferably 100) we ask for your explanation of what Christianity is.

The old adage is that someone has written a long letter because they didn’t have time to write a short one. It will undoubtedly take effort to be succinct.

Remember the old joke that Jesus asked “Who do you say that I am?” brought the reply: “You are the eschatological manifestation of the ground of our being, the kerygma of which we find the ultimate meaning in our interpersonal relationships” – which brought Jesus’s reply: “What?”

So we ask that only the basic 500 English words be used – theological and philosophical terms are to be avoided.
(the above is 146 words!)

The main thing is to keep the project’s aim in mind – how to explain/describe Christianity to Gen Y in their language in their time span the key Christian message so that they are not alienated - as they may not have issues with homosexuality, they may have friends from other faiths, they may be cynical about public figures who claim to be Christian but are corrupt or cruel. Or they may have a problem with Old Testament stories and concepts, virgin birth, miracles, resurrection, angels, human consciousness after death and/or other issues.

So what is core Christianity?
